Hang in there, Mom!

Have you had a day filled with driving carpools and assigning time-outs? Of homeschooling, overseeing homework, and making sure chores get done? If so, reminding you that children are a blessing from God probably isn’t what you need to hear right now! Or – is it?

Psalm 127:3 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord.” That “behold” is a huge exclamation mark! Children are a blessing, and motherhood is a privilege. Setting aside the reality of a bad day, how do you feel about your children? Do you cherish them? I’m guessing you do. Sometimes you just need a little reminder.

Your children are created in God’s image. And you have the privilege of teaching them, training them, loving them, and prizing them! I want to encourage you on the good days and the bad-that as a mom after God’s own heart, a mom who loves and cares for your children, you are right in the center of God’s perfect will.

Into my hands and heart You, my all-wise Father, have deposited Your gift of my precious children. When I wonder how on earth I can manage, remind me to look to You for perspective, patience, and a growing capacity to love and cherish my children—even more! Amen.

We’ve all struggled at one time or another with our ability to fully trust God. I never truly realized the extent to which I wrestled with Him over both the simplest of things, and the big things, until I had children. Yet, I would always hear Him whisper to my spirit, “I will protect them. Trust me.”

How did men and women in the Bible accomplish great things for God? There wasn’t any secret formula or bestselling book on success for them. In fact, they were ordinary people like you and me. What made them effective was their willingness to obey God—one decision at a time.

Power in Prayer

There are few things that can change a marriage the way prayer can. While I was an associate pastor, a couple came to my office for marriage counseling. After we pinpointed several areas of concern in their marriage that needed their attention, I asked the husband to commit the couple’s desires to the Lord. As the man finished praying, I looked up to discover that his wife was crying. She explained through her tears that this was the first time in ten years of marriage that they had prayed together as a couple!
